Vancouver Velo Vets

Vancouver Velo Vets – About

We are a road cycling club established in 1994, with a focus on group recreational rides. While most of our members are 50+ years of age (including many middle-aged converts to cycling), we welcome members of all ages and genders.

The ride calendar features mainly Saturday morning rides from various start points, to take advantage of varied terrain and to accommodate our members who live in different parts of the Vancouver metro area These rides start at 9:00AM (10:00AM in the winter) and typically include a mid-ride stop at a coffee shop. If the weather looks unsuitable it's an option to switch to Sunday morning if Sunday's weather looks more promising.

During the Spring through Fall we also ride in Stanley Park on Tuesday evenings, starting at 6:00PM. For the winter the weekday riding moves to Zwift for those with bike trainers, with "meetups" usually scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Pace: Depending on the size of the group and range of abilities, the group may be split into two packs. The first group will go at the pace comfortable to that group but the rear (or only) group will be no-drop and go at a pace comfortable for the slowest rider. Typically for the slower group that will be about 26kph or so on the flat. The groups will regroup at the coffee shop and perhaps other pre-arranged points.

On wet days bikes must have suitable fenders. We encourage front and rear lights for all rides, but especially in the wet and winter, and of course helmets are mandatory.

Annual social events include a summer barbecue and a Christmas party.

Guest Riders are welcome but are required to complete a waiver form and bring it to the ride you wish to participate in. Read more in the Membership section of this website about membership and guest riders. Experienced members of the club will pass on tips and instruction to anyone unfamiliar with group riding or other aspects of the sport.

We have a closed groups on Whatsapp for members.
