12/31...Christmas eve ride in Ladner drew a crowd of 14 hearty souls who navigated the Delta on a chilly zero degree morning Saturday.

11/12...A dozen velo vets started off from the Ladner Rec Center and were soon joined by John and Casey with Ian dropping in on River Road. 10/16...Seven VVS representing the 2010 "Ride to Conquer Cancer" team took part in a reunion ride from Kensington Arena up to Belcarra on a beautiful fall morning.
10/15...A large, enthusiastic group of VVs traversed the Golden Ears Bridge and toured the Fort Langley, Glenn Valley area on a cool, damp and foggy Saturday morning. Bob Allan towed the group out of the river valley into some sunny skies above the fog.
10/13...Velo Vet's race representative, Leo LeCouteur reports great results from the 2011 Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, Utah. Terry Kornutiak swept the two gold medals and one silver in her division, Barb Davies picked up two silver and two broze medals and George MCLaughlin garnered the bronze medal in his TT. Leo noted the RR started with the morning temperature at 2 degrees celsius. Had no effect on the Canadian riders!
10/04...For the fourth time in the last nine years, Bob Allan has won the trophy awarded for the fastest overall handicap time in the annual Turkey Ten Time Trial based on the age standard.
10/01...Fastest racer overall in Saturday's annual Turkey Ten Time Trial was Casey Tolhurst, who notched his fourth consecutive race of the season with a clocking of 15:53 for the 10K. John Seckel wasn't far in arrears with Jim White third on the podium. With several racers on their way to Utah for the Huntsman World Senior Games and threatening skies, the field was reduced to just six for this year's edition. Complete results...
09/24...A large crowd of Velo Vets made the trip to Morgan Creek Golf course on a post card Saturday morning for the annual Wacky Wiltshire 100. The club divided in half and two solid groups made their way to Fort Langley for coffee before returning to the golf course where app. 20 riders enjoyed lunch with club co-founder Walter Wiltshire.
09/17...Casey Tolhurst reports a recent climb up the infamous Mt. St. Helens in Washinton State. The epic 100 mile ride over good quality roads with minimal traffic took him through two hours of the earthquake's total destruction zone and totaled 6,200 feet of climbing. Sounds like another "must do".
09/17...Only six brave, determined, and somewhat mentally challenged riders showed up at Tim Hortons on a rainy Saturday morning for a slosh out to Iona followed by a desperate dash down Railway to the coffee shop in Steveston. After leaving the Diplomat the clouds were blown away by a strong headwind from the east along the dyke where the group got a good blow-dry.
09/16...Start time for the Tuesday evening rides has been moved to 5:30 at the usual meeting place.
09/11..Gran Fondo results are in and the fastest Velo Vet reported was Stuart Lynne, levelling the 120K ramp up to Whistler with a sensational time of 3 hours and 50 minutes. Patti Wahl, coming back from a serious accident earlier in the year, benefited from her team's dedicated training throughout the summer and led the team with a remarkable 4 hour and 13 minute effort, an incredible achievement that put her in the top ten of a division that included several licensed women racers.
09/10...A social group of 16 riders ventured out to Fort Langley and Glenn Valley on Saturday morning, enjoying sunny skies and quiet roads. A report on Velo Vet Gran Fondo riders will be posted as soon as available.
09/07...There will be a Pitt Meadows / Fort Langley ride on Saturday at 9:00 meeting at Starbucks on Harris Road for those interested. This does not affect the traditional Richmond pick-up ride which will start at it's usual place, behind Starbucks on Bridgeport.
09/07...The meeting place for the Thursday night Burnaby/Coquitlam rides has been changed to Union and Sperling due to traffic concerns on Hastings. The Calender shows the adjustment.
09/03...Casey Tolhurst completed a natural "hat-trick" when he notched his third consecutive Time Trial on Saturday at Iona Beach. A growing group of racers kept the competition close with John Seckel and George McLaughlin continuing to produce strong races. Meanwhile the Richmond ride continues to swell with the growing peleton forced to find two coffee shops to acomodate the large number of social riders that joined the group on Saturday. The club's climbers chose an ascent of Westwood Plateau in their final preparations for next week's Whistler Gran Fondo.
08/27...A large number of Vancouver Velo Vet members were on the road Saturday. About a dozen Vets attacked the testing 150K Sumas - Mt. Baker ride and 15 riders, including two strong guest riders, enjoyed the traditional Richmond ride.
08/25...Velo Vets once again dominated the Road Cycling events at the recent Senior Games in Nelson, British Columbia. Leading the way, veteran Velo Vet Bob Allen swept his division winning three gold medals. Barb Davies also took all three medals in her division. John Sullivan took gold in the hill climb and roadrace and settled for the silver in the TT. Leo LeCouteur brought home three bronze medals. Gerry Goodleff, continuing his comeback, picked up three silver medals. In all the Velo Vets amassed an amazing 15 medals and Barb reports the event was well organized and took place in perfect weather. WELL DONE RACERS!
08/20...The weather was hot but the ice cream was cool. A group of about 20 riders made the 110-120K journey through the valley to the Birchwood Dairy on Saturday. Mark Gray took on the Cypress Hill Challenge in prreparation for the upcoming Whistler Gran Fondo.
08/14...The annual Velo Vet barbeque picnic was held Sunday at Peter and Helen's and a great time was had by all. The large group of members and their families enjoyed some great salads and deserts brought by the women and Neil que'd-up some awesome bratwurst sausages for hot dogs. Thanks to everyone for their participation, especially to Helen and Kim for their effort.
08/10...Leo LeCouteur reports picking up 11 points for his age catagory, finishing second in the gruelling Mt. Seymour Hill Climb and recieving the silver in the BCMA Victoria 56K road race.
08/06...Several riders took part in Time Trial #4 on an overcast morning at Iona Beach. Casey T. and Mike C. led the way with good results. After the time trial, close to 30 Velo Vets (including several guests) formed an impressive pace-line for the traditional ride down to Steveston for coffee at the Diplomat, before heading out to Annacis Island to extend the morning ride.
07/30...Casey reports a spirited group of seven Vets attacked the Stave Lake route and discovered some new coffee stops. 14 riders enjoyed the traditional Richmond ride with Wesley taking the lively Iona sprint. Several Vets took in the Tour de Whatcom but no reports received.
07/23...A club-record 21 riders left Sumas Saturday morning on an app. 150K trek through the north west that included a 4,300 foot climb up Mount Baker. The climbers stopped for a traditional lunch at Milano's in Glacier before enjoying a good tempo ride back down through the valley to the border. The weather couldn't have been better and the ride is scheduled again on this year's calendar.
07/10...A much nicer Sunday morning drew a group of ten vets and a strong guest rider out to Richmond for some significant paceline work in preparation for the Whistler Fondo. Consistent paceline speeds of up to 40Kmp were achieved during several River Road repeats. Brian reports highly successful training session will probably be held again. Next week is the popular Mt. Baker ride. Don't forget your paperwork.
07/09...15 riders met at Starbucks in Pitt Meadows and rode out to and around Glen Valley on a warm and clear morning. Armstrong Hill was included in Saturday's ride and some time after the climb, John S. suffered a cracked rim and was forced to abandon in Fort Langley. DON'T FORGET - Next week is the annual raspberry festival ride to Lynden. PASSPORTS.
07/02...Time Trial #3 was taken by Casey Tolhurst who took a liking to the temporary course on River Road. John Seckel posted an impressive personal best as eight racers enjoyed a good course on a warm morning with little wind. Ten Velo Vets took part in the Annual 140K Canada Day Ride touring the Fraser Valley on Friday.
06/25...13 Velo Vets took the ferry to the Island on Saturday and enjoyed a great ride around Victoria led by John. The weather cooperated and the group stopped in Oak Bay for luch before tackling the rollers back to Swartz Bay for the return ferry trip.
06/25...Time Trialers please contact Brian and or John in regards to changing next week's course from Iona where construction has virtually closed it down to River Rd. at No.7 Rd. East on River Rd. for 5K and then back. Bathroom and good parking are located there. Brian and John would like your input on this proposal.
06/19...Team Velo Vets completed their 250K journey to Seattle, raising close to $40,000 with no major incidents other than flat tires. A good time was had by all and more Velo Vet club members are encouraged to join us next year. DON'T FORGET - Next Saturday is the annual Victoria ride, one of the year's most popular rides.
06/12...Team Velo Vets would like to thank all their club members for their support and generosity. With your help the "Ride to Conquer Cancer" team has raised a significant $39,000 in support of this geat cause. The group will be leaving Fraser Downs Casino at 7:30 am Saturday on their 250K two-day trek to Seattle.
06/11...The Velo Vets were represented by s strong turnout of 25 riders in Saturday's 50K police escorted ride from South Shore Cycle down through the Delta. The ride, sponsored by Team Coastal, raised over 3,000 towards the total that will be raised next weekend when a select group of riders will take on the gruelling 400K "Ride to Survive" from Kelowna to Surrey in support of Cancer research.
06/04...Time Trial #2 took place under sunny skies Saturday morning but the enthusiastic racers were greeted to strong headwind off the water. The course was abbreviated due to some ongoing construction but the riders were pleased to get the club time trial season under way. Results here
05/28...A large group of Velo Vets teamed up on Saturday to make the long, gradual climb up to Golden Ears Park. Henning suffered an early mechanical and was forced to abandon the ride in Pitt Meadows. Tom and Pati caught up to the group in Maple Ridge. Lindsay, Mike T. and Leo attebded the Tour de Victoria.
05/23...Velo Vets spread themselves throughout the lower mainland on an almost beautiful Victoria Day. Tubular Tom led an up-tempo ride up the North Shore coast to Lions Bay with several "Whistler Gran Fondo" riders while the 'Ride to Conquer Cancer' group met for a ride out to Fort Langley and beyond where they ran into another small group of "Vets". Velo Vets were also spotted in Richmond.
05/21...A steady rain greeted the four riders that made the Glenn Valley ride on Saturday morning - and it never stopped.
05/15...Velo Vet Club race points to the end of April are posted now. Race points for May must be submitted by Friday, June 10.
05/14...17 hardy souls ventured into some foreboding weather on Saturday to make the ride from Park Royal to Horshoe Bay with several brave souls making the extended climb up Mt. Cypress before encountering some rain on the return trip down the mountain. Velo Vets were also spotted in Richmond and Fort Langley.
05/06...Team Vancouver Velo Vets has now raised over $31,000 towards their goal of $34,000 in support of this year's Ride to Conquer Cancer, a two-day, 250K ride to Seattle benefiting the B.C. Cancer Foundation. The team would like to thank all the club members that have sponsored a rider. Not all the riders have reached the minimum of $2,500 to participate and the deadline is not far away. Club members taking part include Brian Larsen, Krista Dragan, Jim Henderson, Neil Salway, Terry Kornutiak, Peter Schalle, Lindsay Hill, Duncan Isberg and Greg MacDonald.
04/30...A club-record 42 riders attended Saturday's annual President's ride in Richmond. Michel and Dino pulled the endless train through a beautiful morning on a great ride that went without incident except for a couple of punctures. The morning finished with an enjoyable lunch at O'Hares Pub in Steveston where Ian was the lucky winner of a healthy 50-50 draw.
04/23...Over 20 riders formed a strong peleton in Ladner Saturday before covering the Delta on an 80K club ride under sunny skies. Don't forget - Next week is the annual President's ride in Richmond and we expect a large turnout for a traditional Richmond ride before lunch at O"Hare's pub.
04/16...Congatulations!. - Leo Le Couteur won a gold medal in the Thunderbird Masters Road Race in Langley on Sunday. The race was 75K of rolling hills starting at Thunderbird Equestrian Centre just south of Glenn Valley.
04/16...A well organized group of over 20 riders covered 80K of the Pitt Meadows / Glenn Valley route Saturday morning under cloudy skies with the rare drizzle. The large peleton remained tight from the moment the ride started and continued to peddle as one for the entire morning. BRAVO!
04/09...Good turnout of 21 riders accompanied by a few guest riders made the 80K ride from White Rock to Fort Langley on Saturday under cloudy but dry conditions. Enjoyable morning went without any serious incidents or mechanicals.

04/03...A strong Velo Vet contingent participated in Sunday's annual Pacific Populaire with several riders improving their last year's times over the 100K course through South Vancouver and Richmond. Reports are that Duncan was impressive at the front. Apparently John, who did not crash, suffered a broken spoke followed later by a flat, but managed to finish with a wobbly wheel. Well done riders!
04/02...A group (or two...or three) of 15 Vets ventured through Richmond Saturday morning. Brian suffered through a frustrating puncture repair that culminated in a new tire donated by John.

03/26...A season-high 25 riders turned up for Saturday's traditional Richmond/Steveston ride under cloudy skies and over dry roads. Next week's ride will return to Richmond as the club preps for Sunday's annual Pacific Populaire. To avoid a long line at the starting point (Riley Park), you can register on-line now.
03/19...Nineteen riders split into two groups on Saturday, nine touring the Delta and ten (including guest rider Krista Dragan), splashing their way through the traditional Richmond course. Brian reported crashing on Ladner Trunk road, when unable to escape a paving rut in the shoulder. No serious injuries.
03/12...Nine riders toured Richmond on Saturday, meeting several more Vets at the Diplonat for coffee, before heading home in a gusty rain storm.
03/05...A biker's dozen (12) showed up for the traditional Ladner / South Delta ride Saturday and the well-paced group experienced the first hints of Spring after several months of winter riding conditions.
02/19...Saturday's Ladner/South Delta club ride provided sunny skies and chilly conditions for the 14 riders. Neil and Brian were forced to cut their rides short but no incidents were reported.
02/17...Leo has contacted the Hume Hotel in Nelson to reserve rooms for Velo Vets planning on participating in this summer's Senior Games. Any Velo Vets planning on taking in the games should contact Leo so accomodation can be arranged.
02/13...Club rider Patti Wahl was the victim of a poor driver in a bike/vs car confrontation while commuting home from work Thursday evening. Brian reports that Patti wasn't seriously injured but pretty banged-up and obviously a little shaken. The club wishes Patti a quick recovery and hopes to see her on the road soon.
02-12...Saturday morning's Richmond ride - Wet and windy. About a dozen velo vets including guest riders Sharon and Darell coasted out to Iona Beach through a constant rain and frustrating head-wind back to Richmond and out to Steveston (stopping for one flat tire) for a soothing cup of coffee with Bob and Tony. The rainy conditions out-waited the group in Steveston and kept the riders company on their trip back to Tim Horton's and home......Wet and windy.
02/05...Saturday morning's Delta / Whestham Island ride brought out a large group of Velo Vets who enjoyed the mild morning and great road conditions. Another 'great club ride" with a large turnout. Everyone enjoyed it (even Dr. Dave, who experienced an extremely rare broken spoke).
01/31...John Sullivan and Tom Herbst report that they have registered to ride the world renown "La Marmotte", the most difficult one day event for amateur cyclists in the world. The unique 170K event for elite riders only takes place in France on July 2nd and finishes at the summit of the famous lAlpe dHuez after climbing a total of 5,000M.
